Cedar Bark Craft - Three Days | September 1st- 3rd 2026

Time: 10 am - 4.30 pm daily

Venue: Hurst Barns Studio

This immersive and unique three-day course will guide you through the complete journey of cedar bark weaving, from raw material to a beautifully finished basket.

Guided by Nick McMillen you will create a square-to-round basket with the opportunities of learning a range of traditional techniques, including plaiting, two- and three-strand twining, patterned bases and sides, and folded borders.

We will begin by exploring how to process and prepare raw cedar bark, transforming it into weaving materials of different widths and qualities. You will also learn how to use iron vinegar to naturally dye the bark, opening up opportunities for pattern, contrast, and design within your work.

With step-by-step guidance throughout, this course offers the chance to develop practical skills, deepen your understanding of this remarkable material, and create a unique basket to take home.

  • This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with basketry experience.

  • Please wear old clothes.
